IT & Telecom Infrastructure
The growth story of Mysore, has been scripted by the advent of big time IT Companies at Mysore. While companies like Wipro, TCS and L & T Infotech have announced their plans of setting up shop or expanding their base at Mysore, the poster boy of Indian IT – Infosys, continues to make a lot of news out of Mysore.
The 25th annual celebrations of Infosys was kicked off from Mysore with the finance minister Shri. P. Chidambaram wondering whether he was in India. On July 31, 2006,the Mysore center witnessed the symbolic remote opening of the trading at NASDAQ Stock market, and on Dec 9,2006, Infosys became the first Indian Company to enter the NASDAQ – 100 Index. Today the Mysore center is bracing itself to conduct training for 25,000 trainees apart from having about 6000 developers.
The I.T exports from Mysore has witnessed a sharp upturn with the estimated exports expected to touch 1000 crores by March 2008.
Mysore has been the first Indian city to be WI-Fi enabled. Mysore is also the first Indian city participating in the Karnataka Government’s e-Governance initiative to have completed computerizing the land records.
Homegrown companies like Software Paradigms, Excel-Soft, Aaliptha Software, Comat Infoscribe Rangsons Electronics, etc. have recorded sharp up turns in catering to export markets. STPI-Mysore ranks second, only after Bangalore in the state in the no., of companies being registered.
The abundance of knowledgeable & technically competent workforce at Mysore has been the main driving force behind this development. You will find the no., of hardware vendors, to be around 100. Contributing to this stupendous growth is the reputation of engineering colleges in churning out the best of CS and electronic graduates. Embedded systems, Banking solutions, e-learning, medical transcription, etc., are some of the core areas of competence of Mysore based companies.
